Directions to Indiana University

Directions to SLIS
If you are driving to Bloomington from the Indianapolis International Airport, go south on Highway 37. Take the first exit (Walnut Street/College Avenue). Drive about 3 miles. On your right hand side will be the Bloomington Visitor's Center. Stop there for brochures, etc. Continue going south on College Avenue. Turn left on 10th Street - continue till you reach Jordan Avenue - then Turn right. SLIS is located at the corner of 10th Street and Jordan Avenue. (If you missed 10th Street - then continue to 3rd Street. 3rd Street will also intersect with Jordan Avenue). Travel time from Indianapolis to Bloomington is about one to one and a half hours, depending on traffic.

Building Access

Visitor Parking

IU Bloomington has a user-based parking system, which is paid for by permit fees. As a visitor, you are a guest of those around you who pay for the facilities and are always welcome on our campus.

Visitors who wish to park on university property must either use a pay facility, park at a meter, or obtain a visitor parking permit. Visitor permits are issued daily and are intended to serve the needs of those who are occasionally on campus. More frequent and regular campus visitors are expected to purchase a regular parking permit.

Visitors may obtain One-day Permits at the Henderson Parking Garage (310 S. Fess Ave.) or the Indiana Memorial Union (900 E. Seventh St.), Visitor-disabled permits (ADA Accessible Parking Locations) at the Henderson Parking Garage, park in one of the five pay-parking garages or park short-tem in a metered parking area. There are several metered spots in the lot outside SLIS.

There is a convenient hotel located in the Indiana Memorial Union on campus.

Transportation from the Indianapolis Airport

• Bloomington Shuttle Service 1.800.589.6004 - Shuttles run at 2-hour intervals. Drivers cannot sell tickets, so advance ticket purchase is necessary. Tickets may be purchased with cash or credit card at the vending kiosks in the Ground Transportation Center across the street from the baggage claim area at Indianapolis International Airport or at the Indiana Memorial Union. Tickets are $22 each way. Advance reservation is highly recommended.
• Star of American Airport Shuttle now provides shuttle services to and from Indianapolis International Airport. You can catch a ride from Indianapolis to Bloomington, or even from Bloomington to Indianapolis.
